EARTH FEST 2016

We recently spent a week up in Gariep, Gariep Dam, doing a Permaculture Course prior to the Earth Fest 2016.

The climate here is harsh with as little as 135mm of rain per year and they havent had their rain this past year and now heading into year 2.

The drought is very real when this large dam is sitting on 52%

Gariep Dam is in South Africa, near the town of Norvalspont, bordering the Free State and Eastern Cape provinces. Its primary purpose is for irrigation, domestic and industrial use as well as for power generation.

We prepared a space of land belonging to A Forever Resorts Gariep to plant up a food forest during the Earth Fest.

Great preparations went into making this a sustainable Food Forest with swales, ponds and tree pans.

Thanks to everyone who attended, we plant 254 trees in a few hours!  All done with compost and mulch and water pipes!

A GREAT JOB AND A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE!
